HD DVD edging out Blu-ray

So who is winning in the uneventful war between Blu-ray and HD DVD? Marginally, HD DVD is taking the lead. Most likely influenced by cost and content, HD currently has more than twice the available titles than Blu-ray and the players for them are less than half on average. Given that early adopters aren't always influenced by price, other important factors include production delays on Blu-ray.

As we all know, very big players are behind both camps. At a consumer level, however, it's unlikely the two technologies will co-exist as separate products. Assuming both of them are picked up, the real winner is going to be the manufacturer of chipsets and players supporting both. After all, why buy two when you can buy one at half the price?

Worth reading perhaps;

I imagine I'll purchase the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on in the near future; switching to a dedicated player (Which supports BOTH formats) whenever they become available at a more reasonable price
