Russian government pulling the plug on Allofmp3
After many threats from media companies around the world, the Russian Government has opted to side with foreign powers and will be shutting down Allofmp3.com. The site came under a lot of criticism for alleged piracy and for not properly reimbursing media conglomerates around the world. While the effective date on when this will happen isn't made clear, the course of action is:
"Russia will take enforcement actions against the operation of Russia-based websites," according to a press release issued November 19 by the U.S. Trade Representative. "(Russia will) investigate and prosecute companies that illegally distribute copyright works on the Internet."
While the company appears to most likely be operating legally under Russian law, the site was used worldwide to purchase music. It began to face increasing pressure, especially when Visa, one of the largest credit processors in the world, refused to accept any more transactions from them.

-In other words; not satisfied with crushing American children and grand mothers with law suits, the RIAA now sets its sights on Russians too. This next step in global destruction brought to you by another unpopular American Foreign Policy maneuver. Long live the asshats in Washington for this brilliant bit of lunacy!(Don't forget to vote people, and boycott the RIAA!) |

extracted from of ALLOFMP3s FaQ:'Can the copyright owners actually collect from Russian Licensing Societies like ROMS.Yes. Similar to Music Licensing Societies in other countries (like ASCAP and BMI in the US), all a copyright owner needs to do is contact the Russian Licensing Societies (e.g., ROMS) and show proof that they own a copyrighted work; after which they can collect accumulated proceeds.'lol, not surprised |
