Toshiba releases $600 1080p HD-DVD player

A tad down from the $1000 price tags that most players are sporting, but still not in the realm of “cheap”, Toshiba has introduced a new 1080p HD DVD player. The new HD-A20, based very much off the earlier HD-A2 model, though isn't as highly specced as their XA2. It supports the older HDMI 1.2 interface, but aside from that has all the standard features you'd expect like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. At $600 it'll be the cheapest 1080p standalone player. Even still, nothing about the new HD or Blu-ray players screams “must have”. The prices will keep on lowering, though, and we can all enjoy that.
