AMD cuts prices, introduces new Opterons
As we've been hearing about the past few days, AMD has been planning a price cut and new chip release for today, and as promised it has happened. The price cuts affect their entire Opteron line, including the 8-way, 2-way and 1-way models. Some of the biggest cuts happened at the very top of the chain, with the 8220 SE falling from $2,149 to $1,514. They've of course added the various CPU's we've talked about them introducing recently.
One chip was also retired, with the Opteron 865 disappearing and the Opteron 850 dropping to $523. On a smaller note(and a more affordable one at that), AMD also introduced a new Athlon X2, the 3600+, which will have an extremely cheap price tag of only $138.

Very nice. I just picked up an Athon 64 3400+ (2.2GHz) for $56. Amazing performance for the money! Now I can look forward to upgrading to an X2 later this year for not much more. Thanks AMD! |
