After it being one of the hottest topics on the Dell feedback forums and some people feeling a bit irked the tongue-and-cheek responses, the retail PC giant has opened a survey regarding Linux support. It'll be open for the next 10 days, and during that time Dell hopes to collect enough information on the OS. They ask whether you'd prefer to use it in a home or an office, what systems you'd like to see it on first (servers, workstations, notebooks, desktops, et cetera), what sort of tasks you seek to perform and even ask what distro you prefer. The default choices they list include SuSE, Red Hat, Fedora, OpenSUSE and Ubuntu, with an other section to write in another distro.

It almost seems a little surreal, Dell soliciting for answers to these types of questions. Then again, it is good news all around, and perhaps they will make good use of the information rather than stalling for untold numbers of years. Could we see Dell Ubuntu systems online or in store shelves sooner rather than later? If you're interested in taking the survey, you can find it at Dell's site.
