Intel unveils quad-core QX6800

By Justin Mann on
Intel is unveiling another quad-processor, adding the Core 2 Extreme QX6800 as the 12th in that lineup. Designed around the 65nm process and 8MB of L2 cache with a 1066MHz FSB, it is no slouch. The processor is supposedly up to 65% faster than the previous generation X6800, which was a dual core processor, though that clearly is entirely up to the application. It is aimed at gamers and enthusiasts. Of course, expect to pay an enthusiastic price for such a speed demon. Intel has no qualms saying they expect their target market to respond to it, and that they understand it is a tiny one: only a fraction of a percent.

Where's AMD's answer? We're still waiting on it, and will have to wait for several more months. No word on the exact pricing for this new 2.93GHz QX6800 yet.
