At the IDF in Beijing, Intel has introduced the newest in their line of ultra low-power processors, designed with future notebooks in mind. The “Silverthorne” processor, paired together with the “Menlow” platform, will be designed to have a TDP of only 5W to 12W, giving even Via a run for their money. Exact specifications aren't being revealed, such as performance estimates or clockspeeds, though they are planning a release as soon as next year on these new chips.

The 8-hour notebook may not be that far off at all.
