Apple invites all partners to offer DRM-free music

While it's unlikely that all vendors will instantly jump on the opportunity, Apple is opening their doors to a world of DRM-free music. Yesterday, Apple announced that they will let any of their partners offer DRM-free content, both music and videos. Having already made a similar deal with EMI, it seems Apple wants to encourage other labels to introduce DRM-free formats to the market. Will anybody bite? I certainly hope so, as any additional vendor joining EMI would be a huge success for consumer freedom.

It wasn't all that long ago that EMI joined with Apple in this thinking. Supposedly, the first DRM-free music available from iTunes will arrive in May.
