HP retains lead over Dell for PC sales

Last year, HP managed to squeak past Dell for PC shipments to take the #1 spot worldwide. Obviously that upset Dell, so much so that they made public statements regarding their attempts to turn it around.

HP's grip on their new crown is strong, though, and the fierce competition they are bringing to Dell has helped them retain that spot. Now all the way into the 2Q of 2007, they remain the number one PC vendor worldwide at Dell's loss:

HP continued its successful run of strong quarters, leading all PC makers by shipping 11.3 million units, good enough for 19.3 percent of the overall market. Dell's global shipments were down almost 5 percent--to about 9.5 million PCs--from a year ago, but remained in second place behind HP.
Now, can they keep the momentum up? Dell certainly won't sit idle, so we can expect them to fight back at HP.
