AMD releases new Linux Radeon drivers
Linux Radeon users, your long wait is finally over. At least, for most of you. AMD has released a new set of drivers, 8.41.7, of their proprietary driver package and have posted them to their site.
While there are some confusing statements on their driver sites, such as this page saying they only suggest the driver for the 2000 series, the release notes claim they support cards from the 9500 onwards, including the X series from X200 to X1800.
This is pretty new stuff – so don't slap these on to mission critical systems. But if you have been dying for a better driver like many Linux Radeon users, give it a try.
