With the multitude of companies that target “consumers” in their laptop lines, it can be hard to keep track of them. Lenovo is adding itself into that fray, particularly the UMPC fray, with their new 11-inch “IdeaPad” model, which they demoed at CES earlier this year. The laptops are now preparing to ship, starting with the U110. The 1.6GHz Core 2 Duo based machine with a 120GB HDD and 2GB of RAM is no mere lightweight, but rather than being aimed at business or corporate users it is aimed at home users.

That might be tricky, considering a lot of consumers will have a hard time swallowing $1900 for the cheapest edition of the U110. Its small size might be very appealing, however, to people who demand performance and portability. The microscopic size comes with a microscopic battery life, sadly enough. On paper the machine looks nice, but I question whether the UMPC market can handle more load.
