Continuing with its push to become the greenest technology company on the planet, Dell has said it plans to cut the combined power of its desktop and notebook PCs by 25 percent in 2010, compared to the current power output of those systems today.

Dell expects to achieve these environmentally friendly goals through more energy-efficient designs and more effective power-management features. The company is also working closely with its supplier base to further develop and deliver energy-efficient components, including chip sets, power supplies and memory.

Dell’s efficiency program is driven by a quite recent trend towards greener technology and reduced power usage. The idea is that lower power consumption will mean fewer emissions of greenhouse gases and lower electricity bills for users – while this may be a tough sell among regular consumers, when it comes to businesses’ large and power-hungry data centers it certainly is something to take into consideration.
