Following their debut at the Computex event in Taipei, Asus has now announced the official US pricing for their new lineup of Atom-powered Eee PCs. Unfortunately, however, more and more it seems the infamous sub-notebook is edging out of the budget market it helped ignite back in late 2007.

The Eee PC 901, which has an 8.9-inch display, will go for $599 in both its Linux and Windows XP versions. Pricing for the larger 1000 and 1000H models are reportedly “estimated and subject to change” before release, but their current plan is to sell the Eee PC 1000 (Linux or Windows XP) for $699 and the HDD-sporting 1000H model (Windows XP only) for $649. A firm release date for the US is yet to be announced, though all three models are expected to hit UK retail shelves on July 1.

The runaway success of the tiny low-cost laptop has sparked a revolution in the industry and earned Asus a strong branding in the budget market. We’ll have to wait and see if that’ll be enough for them to compete with lower-priced alternatives from the likes of MSI, Acer, and HP.
