Despite receiving huge amounts of publicity since its launch, Asus has revealed that it failed to hit its target for Eee PC shipments in the first six months of 2008. According to a report by DigiTimes, the mini-notebook maker planned to ship two million Eee PCs but missed that mark by 300,000 units.

Shortages of Intel’s Atom processors along with various other component supply problems and a downturn in the global economy have been blamed for the missed target. Nevertheless the company is sticking to its shipment target of five million units for the year, meaning they expect to sell roughly 3.3 million units between now and the end of December. That will be no easy task, however, with rivals such as Acer, HP, Dell, and MSI all going for a piece of the market.
