Apple's iPhone App Store goes live
A full day ahead of the big iPhone 3G debut Apple has dropped the curtain on the much anticipated App Store and iTunes 7.7. There are several hundred new applications available for both the iPhone (original or 3G) and iPod touch, with lots of them being free, including a Remote tool that allows users to control their iTunes or Apple TV from their device as well as various applications for use with Facebook, Google Mobile, eBay and Twitter.
Roughly 25 percent of the applications are free right now, while others are priced at $0.99, $4.99, and $9.99 – which seem to be the most popular price point but not actually the limit. You can start purchasing apps now, but of course you'll need the 2.0 software to actually use them on your device. While the latest firmware isn’t officially available through iTunes yet, some sharp-eyed fan digging through Apple’s XML files has found a direct link to the update file for everyone to download. So there you have it, anyone who owns an iPod Touch or iPhone will definitely want to check this out.
