Bethesda to censor Fallout 3 across all regions
A few months ago we learned that Bethesda was planning on releasing a censored version of Fallout 3 in Australia. The reasons were due to run-ins with local regulatory agencies who found the game to be controversial. Censorship seemed like a reasonable measure to Bethesda, especially since it would only affect the Australian market.
The changes Bethesda made for Australia, however, seem to have been carried worldwide. According to several blurbs, Bethesda has commented that there will be no difference between the North America, UK or Australian versions of the game. They also assert that the changes are minor, and are only in labeling, with nothing being changed in the actual game mechanics.
A name substitution is a small thing, yes, but it is also a starting point. If one game company makes a change to a game worldwide because of one government's opinion, doesn't it stand to reason that other game makers might follow suit with bigger changes?

so no more "Bloody Mess" ?! damnEDIT: apparently all they did was rename the drugs in the game to something fictitious instead of a real drug name (eg.: morphine)thank god they didn't remove the "bloody mess" perk |

I'm sorry, but seriously, that was one thing that was awesome and basically "made" the game for me. (drugs/sex/rock and roll anyone?) Yes it's adult content, but so is shooting at people and animals and having their limbs blown off... If Bethesda gives in too much, the game isn't going to be anything like the first two. After seeing the trailers of game-play, I can't wait until it comes out, I love the bullet cam when you have the turn based combat activated. The whole drug name change, isn't too bad I guess, but if they change anything major, it's just not going to have the right feel, just another oblivion mod. |

I'm concerned about the whole VATS thingy which seems really overpowered... I hope they were just cheating when they made those clips besides that... it does seem like an Oblivion Fallout. Hell... Mr. Burke has that mad guy's voice from Shivering Islesbut then again Oblivion was (and is) one of the best RPG's out there, if not the best |
