Microsoft readies new "Xbox Experience," schedules Xbox Live 24 hour downtime
Players on Xbox Live will have to find something else to do on Monday, as Microsoft has today confirmed that the service will be turned off for maintenance. News came from Xbox Live programming director Larry Hyrb, otherwise known as Major Nelson, who said Xbox Live will go down for up to 24 hours beginning at 12:01 a.m. PST.
In addition to Xbox Live being down, you won't be able to access the “My Xbox” section of Xbox.com, and the Xbox forums will be in read-only mode. As you might suspect, the move comes in preparation for the new Xbox experience. Before you get too excited, though, we should clarify that there will be no Fall Dash update available for download once the service is back up, as “that will happen later this fall.”
