Western Digital to unveil 2TB HDD this week?

If a 1TB drive is just too small for your storage needs, then you might be interested to know that Western Digital is set to release a 2TB model, possibly by the end of this week. At least according to reports from both Fudzilla and Expreview, claiming the drive already popped up in Czech e-tail listings a month ago.

The WD20EADS will be part of Western Digital's Caviar Green series and is expected to have four 500GB platters. Fudzilla also mentions the new drive will have 32 MB of cache, a seek time of 8.9ms and will run at either 5400RPM or 7200RPM. Pricing is not yet known, but rumors are pointing to somewhere in the range of $210 - $240.

Have we reached the limits of disk storage with this drive? This is just crazy how small the bits of data must be on this disk.

however you look at it that is a huge amount of HDD space, even for servers

just imagine a RAID5 with several of these things...
