Valve says Left 4 Dead Survival Pack DLC will be free
After questioning the ever more common practice of monetizing additional game content, Valve is putting the money where its mouth is by confirming that the upcoming Left 4 Dead “Survival Pack” expansion will be free for both PC and Xbox 360 gamers when it launches sometime this spring. The game developer has traditionally updated their PC releases with free content as a strategy to combat piracy and build a loyal following, but until now it had unable to work out a free distribution model with Microsoft on the Xbox 360.

Fortunately, it seems now that they have been able reach said agreement. Hopefully more developers will see the benefit in offering free content for their games as well. The L4D Survival Pack will include a brand new multiplayer game called 'Survival' and two campaigns for Versus mode: Death Toll and Dead Air.

Good for Valve and Microsoft... Microsoft had to be pushed but they let it happen. I was definitely starting to get the feeling that everything listed as an add-on was getting a standard price on Xbox Live regardless of developer, which honestly makes no sense. If you only add minimal content it should be free or have minimal affect on your wallet. I can understand some map packs needing price tags, but most really can't justify their worth whatsoever. |

valve is doing a great job.. i bought TeamFortress 2 this summer... and they have continued to release updated contents for the game.. will for sure be buying the next orange box ( or half life 2 ep 3) whenever it comes out.. valve is the only gaming company i feel deserves my support and my money. after playing it and realising the richness of the game i also bought the orange box for my brothers birthday.. i will for sure consider buying anything valve releases thats half life.. that sourta of support is not something u acquire with heavy DRM's. |
