Apple has released a new firmware update for the latest unibody 17-inch MacBook Pro laptops. This 770KB patch is officially called MacBook Pro Graphics Firmware Update 1.0, and although it is very light on details, we do know that it should solve the strange vertical lines and distorted graphics issue that plagues users’ displays.

The company is providing detailed instructions on how to properly install the update and how to check to see what version of the graphics software you are running. Unsurprisingly, though, they are mum on whether this was caused by an overheating problem or a glitch with the GeForce 9600M graphics card. In any case, reports now claim that this issue is solved – let us know how things go in case you have a 17-inch MBP.
