Opera Software is pacing ever nearer to the tenth release of its feature-laden web browser. The company says Opera 10 will deliver better performance, a Turbo mode for slow Internet connections, support for a variety of Web standards, and an improved Opera Mail among other tweaks and additions.

According to company spokesman Thomas Ford, the new Carakan JavaScript engine won't be ready for the official Opera 10 launch. Although he declined to comment on a timeframe for its appearance, he did say that "it will be impressive when it comes." The teams behind Chrome, Firefox and Safari are striving toward improving JavaScript performance in their browsers as well.

The final build of Opera 10 is slated for a September 1 release. If you can't wait until next Tuesday, hop on over to Opera's site and download the release candidate at your leisure.
