Left 4 Dead 2 blacklisted in Australia

Valve's upcoming sequel to Left 4 Dead has reportedly been banned in the land down under. The Australian Classification Board has stamped the title with "RC" (refused classification) because of "high impact violence" against "living humans infected with a rabies-like virus."

In case you're unfamiliar, there is no adult rating for video games in Australia -- with the maximum being MA15+. Any mature title that is unable to obtain the Classification Board's approval for MA15+ is barred from commercial sale. Oddly, the original Left 4 Dead made it to shelves with the Board's blessings.

This doesn't necessarily mean Left 4 Dead 2 won't eventually be given the OK, though. I assume if Valve edits out the content in question, the ban will be lifted. Other titles to be forbidden in recent times include "Sexy Poker," "Necrovision," and "Risen."

You can read the Classification Board's report here (PDF) and its website can be found here. Don't hesitate to leave your rants or otherwise in the comments.

  1. Do they show violent moves in Australia, just curious

  2. wait, "if it edits out the content in question"? and that content is depicting live humans with rabies-like disease? i.e. zombies?

So the only way valve is releasing L4D2 is if it gets rid of all of the zombies?

I find it harder and harder everyday to be surprised by the actions of bureaucrats.

same here . Baffle's me a video game can't have an adult rating . They are clearly living in the past and need to update there rating system .

  4. Australia has always been the home of less regulation by government. Seems they're having a dirge of conservatism. I can't see Aussie sitting still for being told what they can and can't play, as far as games!

  5. The U.S. is the only place any freedom in really to be had on earth, so if you don't live here your country is already as bad as this. If you do, it's time to wake up, quit complaining, and do something about the huge problem of a non constitutional government. Reading the constitution of one's own accord might be helpful if anyone can't recall it. If you value liberty and freedom to choose that is?
