Microsoft has revealed launch details about its upcoming build of Office for Mac. Two editions of the updated productivity suite will hit stores in 13 languages come October. Home and Student will cost $119 for a single license or $149 for a family pack that supports three installations on different machines, while Home and Business will run $199 for one copy or $279 for two. That's between 20% and 50% less than Office 2008's $149.95 and $399.95 price tags.
Full-time students and teachers will be able to purchase an Academic edition, which has all the features of Home and Business for $99. Home and Student includes Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Messenger, while Home and Business tosses in Outlook, which replaces the less capable Entourage email client and is one of the most significant additions of Office 2011.
It's worth noting that starting today, anyone who purchases Office 2008 will receive a free upgrade to 2011 via the Mac Technology Guarantee Program, so if you need the suite now, there's no reason to hold off until October.
