Super Talent is continuing to expand its line of USB 3.0-equipped devices, this time with a portable hard drive known as the Storage POD. Enclosed in a slim, shiny black casing the drive offers 500GB of storage and reaches speeds of up to 90 MB/s when attached to a USB 3.0 port. It’s entirely USB powered, which means no extra AC cable to plug in, backwards compatible, weights only 200 grams (7 ounces) and costs $100.

USB 2.0 drives of similar size run for around $70, while $100 gets you double the storage in the same portable form factor, so you’re definitely paying a premium for the speed bump. Then again if you want an affordable a drive you can take anywhere without compromising performance and storage capacity this one seems like a solid choice. Super Talent will start shipping the Storage POD hard drive in early January 2011.

90MB/s and bus powered... would be nice if I didn't just buy a 2TB Samsung F4 and an external enclosure with eSATA, Of course it's not bus powered though... =o

You're better off madboyv1... For external hdd's, I believe eSata is still better than 3.0
