WOF: Do you know what your CPU's clocked at?

Considering TechSpot's audience mix of techies, hardware enthusiasts, IT pros and gamers, the question above sounds overly simplistic, if not insulting, but is it? Over the last decade, the MHz measurement in your PC's processor has lost much of its meaning, in part because it's no longer an absolute reflection of performance, but that may not the end of it.

For example, I know I'm running a Core i7 870 processor in my workstation, but I have no clue what exact frequency the CPU is running at. I don't think that would have been the case 5 or 10 years ago when I ran my overclocked Celeron 300a or Athlon dual-core processor. Back then I cared about clock and bus speeds, RAM timings, and other details that today I barely pay attention to before upgrading to a new platform.

With devices like smartphones and tablets invading the consumer space in sheer numbers, bringing potential irrelevancy to component specifications, do you think this is a trend that will inevitably hit computers sooner or later?

How about yourself, off the top of your head (DON'T LOOK IT UP), do you know what's your PC's CPU clock speed? Discuss.

  1. Intel Core 2 Quad 9400 @ 3.2 GHz

  2. core 2 duo e6300 @ 2.8 (400 x 7) and memory 1:1 @400mhz

  3. AMD Phenom II 965BE 3.6ghz

  4. There is no way I'm the only one who gets 5Ghz in techspot. I expected more JigaHurtz from the people who visits this site..

    100 x 50 = 5Ghz

All default BIOS setting except multiplier adjusted from 34 to 50

    CPU > 2600k

    Mobo > Asus P8P67

  5. Stock i7 920. 2.66mhz turbo to 2.93.

And I didnt have to look it up.

  6. This thread just happened to come along as I was tinkering with my new Phenom 1100T. Looks like at least for now it'll be 4GHz flat for the 24/7 overclock, 4.2 is still crashing to the desktop under load. BTW, hardly any of my Bios settings are at default values

No your not the only that gets 5 ghz, your the only silly enough to run 5 ghz 24/7 with what i assume is a voltage is around 1.45v or more.

Check in here in 6 months / a year and let us know how your cpu is doing ^^

  8. Of course I do!

    Core i5-750 @ 3.6GHz, only because I put it there. :P

  9. I don't overclock, and honestly, I haven't seen a need for it since 2003.

  10. AMD 1055T 3.64ghz

  11. Athlon X3 425 @3 Ghz with stock voltage and cooling.

altough right know @ 894 Mhz due to CnQ.

  12. 2400k i5, got new cooling system

with the msi top quality and stability mainboard

can reach 5.1GHZ and above (not that stable if i go above 5GHZ)

    but still works

  13. intel duel core [x2] 2.4Ghz [2.33Ghz]

  14. 2400k i5, got new cooling system

with the msi top quality and stability mainboard

can reach 5.1GHZ and above (not that stable if i go above 5GHZ)

    but still works

you make me laugh with this post there is no 2400k cpu and there is no way your getting 5.2 ghz out of it.

  15. amd phenom II x6 1090t @ 4.0ghz here

If my CPU burns in 6 months that means I have the excuse to get Ivy Bridge or the Bulldozer!

    Life is good!

I take a different approach to upgrades..but that works

  • AMD Phenom 9950 BE Oc to 3.0 at 1.4V

    stock is 2.6 at 1.3V

  • 2500k @ 4.2

  • AMD Phenom 9950 BE Oc to 3.0 at 1.4V

    stock is 2.6 at 1.3V

I had a Phenom 9850 BE and trying to hit 3 GHz was like the quest for the Holy Grail.

    From one Guest to another.

Stock speed of the Sandy K chips so far.

    i5 2500k = 3.3 ghz / 3.7 ghz turbo

    i5 2600K = 3.4 ghz / 3.8 ghz turbo

Both chips easy do 4.8 ghz even with a shitty batch.

I dont notice any diffrence in any games, and i never go above 40c during load. (NH-D14)

ASUS doesn't quite agree with you - [link]

Never above 40C during load? Do you live in the arctics?

  • i5 2500k @ 4.4GHz.

  • Agree to disagree...

Every new Android phone that comes out, one of the first 4 specs

that gets mentioned is the speed and number of cores of the CPU.

This will probably happen for every new evolution of tech that is

    limited by (whatever).

Rofl, I could push it farther but I think it's fine where it is. =P

  • AMD 4850e

I do not recall the GHz. I do know it's dual-core and only 45W and that's why I bought it.
