Rovio Entertainment is hard at work on a new Angry Birds game that'll be racing onto the scene by year's end. It's called Angry Birds Go! and based on the very brief teaser trailer, it could either be a Temple Run-type game or perhaps a racing title.

A post on the company's official blog notes that the familiar birds and piggies are getting ready for their most thrilling and action-packed game yet. All of your favorite characters are said to be returning for a brand new title that will bring users closer to Piggy Island than ever before. It's still Angry Birds, just not as you know it, Rovio teases.

It'll be the sixth game in the franchise (if you don't include spinoffs like Bad Piggies) which started with the original Angry Birds in December 2009. Since then, we've seen Angry Birds Seasons, Angry Birds Space, Angry Birds Star Wars and Angry Birds Friends.

It's unclear which platform(s) Angry Birds Go! will land on, however. The first four games were kept on mobile platforms but with Angry Birds Friends, Rovio targeted social media gamers on Facebook initially.

Rovio has capitalized on the success of a franchise like few have been able to. Angry Birds titles collectively amassed 263 million active players in December 2012 but perhaps it's the success outside of gaming that has been most impressive. The franchise has spawned a feature film that's currently under development as well as numerous licensing deals for consumer goods like clothing and stuffed animals.
