Halo fans, rejoice – Bungie and Activision have announced those that pre-order Destiny will get early access to the game’s beta program. The game is expected to launch sometime in 2014 but the beta will arrive next spring according to a joint press release from Bungie and Activision.

Specifically, those that pre-order the game from retailers like Amazon and Best Buy will be among the first to play. Retailers are handling the process of sending out beta invites instead of Bungie or Activision and this is a limited-time offer. Once pre-orders surpass a certain threshold, the offer will be suspended.

The beta will be available for current platforms like the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well as next generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Once a buyer has pre-ordered, they will receive a code that can be redeemed on Bungie’s website.

Some lucky gamers have already gotten their hands on early builds of the game. Back in March, Bungie invited beta testers from around the globe to help get the game ready for next year’s release.

This week has been packed full of Destiny marketing. On Monday, the box art for the game was released and just yesterday, a new gameplay trailer hit the web. The footage shows a destination that a lot of fans have been asking to see.

Bungie unveiled the post-Halo franchise during a special media event held at the company’s studios in Bellevue, Washington, back in February. The game pits players as Guardians of the last remaining city on Earth as either a Titan, Hunter or Warlock.

I dunno, maybe I'm too cynical but watching that trailer and it just seems like a re-skinned Halo. Big enemy aliens with swords, energy grenades.... Was I expecting too much from Bungie? Something new and fresh?

They have a similar art style. Thats about the only similarities I see besides the fact that they are both shooters based in the future. Halo 1-2 were in fact works of art. You wouldnt say picassos paintings look too similar would you? I say give this game a chance.

There's also halo odst and halo reach which were also made by bungie. Those were NOT works of art. In fact reach, the lastest halo made by bungie, was completely terrible overall (Ill admit it does STILL have the best forge but that useless if the game plain sucks anyways).

For the record Bungie didnt particularly WANT to make halo reach, it was just part of that contract.

I think even mentioning halo in the article was an erroneous thing to do. Its clear to me at least that bungie was and had been tired of making halo games for a while. Im excited to play this game, and to see if bungie actually does live up to the potential it has.

I wonder if they will port this to the PC in the future.

There is artistic style and then the subject/content of the piece of work.

In this trailer it looks like the style has changed slightly but the content is similar. At least the subject of Picassos paintings isn't always a vase of sunflowers.
