Email has become central to the way millions of people communicate. If you're going to be spending hours staring at it each day, it would be nice to be able to stare at something you like looking at. To that end Google has announced some updates to Gmail that'll let you add your own personal touch.

Today Google announced via their company blog that hundreds of additional high resolution images have been added to use as themes for your email, which you can then customize further with blur or vignette effects. You can import your own photos as well, just make sure their resolution is high enough so that they look good blown up to full monitor size.

In addition Google has added a metric ton of additional emoji to their existing inventory so you can now conduct entire conversations without words, assuming of course the person receiving the message has any idea what you're talking about.

Google has been doing a lot of work on Gmail including most recently bringing the "undo send" feature into the public sphere. There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 425+ million Gmail users, so we expect several billion new emoji in the next few days

These features are all available right now so take a minute to jump into your Gmail and find a fun new theme to use, until you get bored with it. Then you can find another because there are plenty to choose from.
