Logitech on Wednesday announced a home monitoring camera that's less about surveillance and security and more about letting loved ones stay in touch with each other away from home.

The second product under the new Logi label, the Logi Circle Portable Home Connection Camera is capable of streaming video to a mobile device in 720p quality. Much like a traditional webcam, the Circle is meant for two-way communication as it includes a speaker and microphone.

The camera features a magnetic wall mount with adjustable base and when the action moves away from a power source, the Circle can go with you. Simply detach it from the magnetic ring-shaped charging dock and take it with you for up to three hours of live video streaming.

The Circle works with an accompanying mobile app for Android and iOS devices (sorry, there's no web client). Captured footage is stored on Logitech's Circle Cloud servers which affords some pretty nifty services. Day Briefs, for example, proves an auto-generated, 30-second video summary of the best moments from the day. The camera uses Logitech's Secure Intuition motion-sensing technology to know when to start recording.

The Logi Circle Portable Home Connection Camera is available for pre-order in the US and select countries in Europe priced at $199.99. Look for it to launch sometime next month.
