Apple is now accepting applications for its first-ever reality TV series, Planet of the Apps. As the name suggests, the show will be all about app creators and the search for the next great app.

In its casting call, Apple says online applications are being accepted now through August 26. Applicants must have an iOS, macOS, tvOS or watchOS app in a beta or functional state by October 21, be at least 18 years old and a legal resident of the US to apply.

What's more, they must be available to film in Los Angeles over a non-consecutive period from late 2016 to early 2017. In other words, if you can't take off work to make it out to LA, don't apply.

Apple says that those selected will have the opportunity to receive hands-on guidance from some of the most influential experts in the tech community, funding from top-tier venture capitalists and featured placement on the App Store.

That last bit is quite telling and isn't all that surprising. If you're Apple and you want to get into the original content business, you might as well do it in a way that almost guarantees the generation of revenue. With Planet of the Apps, they're doing just that by highlighting app developers and their creations which serves as featured advertising for apps being sold in its App Store.
