It’s really easy to see that the popularity of the Ubiquiti UniFi UAP-AC-PRO is justified because you not only get a good wireless performance, an elegantly designed case and an acceptable price tag, but you also get the UniFi controller which has lots of advanced features (some of them usually found on enterprise-level devices) which, while still a bit less intuitive for the non-tech-savvy users (the learning curve is not steep, but not really soft either), it can offer a better experience than the regular consumer-grade alternative devices.

I have a ton of control over the network now, unlimited expandability and it has been a fantastically stable network. All the APs are wire backed and the wireless bandwidth is rock solid. I've been extremely impressed with the clean roaming from room to room while streaming from Netflix. It's a tweakers (ahem) dream network.

So, yes, Ubiquiti's UAP-AC-Lite and PRO are damn cheap AC access points with poor-to-middlin' 2.4 GHz performance and 5 GHz performance that runs with most of the AC DWS pack. Easy-to-setup and use DWS they ain't. But a relatively inexpensive way to get a decently performing multi-AP Wi-Fi network with pro-grade features, they certainly are.

For a reasonably skilled sysadmin sick of the race to the bottom in consumer grade Wi-Fi gear, Ubiquiti’s updated UniFi line of wireless access points gives you a huge amount of configurability and functionality at a price that’s incredibly reasonable. The devices are fun to tinker with, reasonably performant, and overall very solid. I plan on buying some for myself.
