Power Consumption

This is perhaps the only place where we really see the Crosshair II Formula falling over, or I should we say the nForce 780 chipset.

When we tested this chipset on the LGA775 platform (Intel) we quickly noticed that it offered dreadful power efficiency. Unfortunately, not much has changed when making the switch to the AMD platform.

The Phenom processors are already known to be power hungry chips, so throwing in a power hungry chipset into the mix is a recipe for disaster. Under load the ASUS Crosshair II Formula used 21% more power than the M3A32-MVP Deluxe, making it 23% more power hungry than the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 system.
