Dell External DVD/CDRW drive not playing DVDs

Hey all,

As the title says, my external DVD drive is not playing DVDs. Thought it was a codec issue, but installed them and I still got problems! Basically it says that it cannot find DVD drive, although of course I installed Windows and Linux (DVD-R) with it.

Dell D400 laptop
Dell external DVD/CDRW is brand Philips (scb5265) according to Device Manager, and Dell no 8w007 on the drive itself.

Plays audio and reads data fine, but just keeps spinning when a DVD is put in. Same thing happens in Linux though, so I worry that it is hardware related, but it clearly states DVD-Rom on the front.

Any ideas??

Hurrah. Flashed the drive's firmware which I didnt expect to do anything as it gave a message stating that the version was the same as before, but now it plays DVDs! Well, on windows anyway. Linux is another matter, but thats for another forum! Thank you Kimsland. Close me down!

Did you use:

View-->Firmware Updates in DISCInfo to do that?
