Strangest error message yet! Adobe Acrobat 8

I just installed Adobe Acrobat and every time I open a PDF file, this pop-up appears:

"Adobe Acrobat 8.1.0 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch at least one other sute component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8.1.0 Professional."

I followed instructions and it works, but if I understand this correctly, it means I need to have Photoshop or Encore or InDesign etc. open at all times in case I need to open a .pdf file? That seems rediculous to me.

Does anyone have a way around this for me before I uninstall this junk? thanks

First, be sure you have this security update on board:
Adobe Acrobat 8.1.1 Professional and Standard update - multiple languages:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3796

Then download Adobe Reader 8.1.2 / 7.0.9 Final:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/PDF/Adobe-Reader.shtml

While the Pro allows for manipulation of PDF files, I don't think it includes the actual Reader.
