After an incedent of power failure. i was not able to open my laptop again because it hangs up after the POST. I have tried removing and reinstalling the battery and also connecting it directly to the outlet throught its power cable but still i have the same problem.

The hard drive is either bad or the boot data is corrupt

you will need to boot off an XP CD and run CHKDSK
