Laptop Struggling to load sound/video and slow buffering and performance- HELP!

Hi guys and girls,

this is my first post so please correct me if this is in the wrong section.

I bought my laptop at Xmas 2006, it is the Acer Aspire 3682WXMi.

40GB HDD, 512MB RAM.

Now i know that these days, that is a poor specification.

However, when I first used it, it worked fine, could load youtube videos and other audio/video things without any hitches.

However, everytime a video on youtube is loading, the sound breaks up and goes very slow, and the video footage skips. However, when the video is fully loaded, the sound and video works fine.

Another example is when I play a song through itunes/windows media player, if i open a new window or go to a new website, the sound breaks up yet again due to something loading.

I have no idea why, so could some of you experts give me some advice please? It would be much appreciated.

*bits of extra info: the first time i ever turned the laptop on, it said i had low disk space. and sometimes it tells me i have low temporary memory. i deleted all i possibly could (as advised by windows xp) with the temporary memory and the same problems continue.

also, i have 4gb free on my C Drive, and about 9gb free on my D drive.*

Hi Liamando, welcome to TechSpot

Confirm all your Drivers (http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_3680.html)are fully installed

You may want to download CCleaner (http://www.filehippo.com/download/file/653cf190b0cc596c68daa48deb6209473616035d850ea695179acafe70fdd3af/), to clear all the temp files

I would also recommend to run Startup Control Panel (http://www.mlin.net/files/StartupCPL.zip), to stop most not required Startups (on next restart)

Also check in ControlPanel->Scheduled Tasks for anything not required.

After that, test again and reply back with the results.

No not a lot.
You must clean it regulary; usually it's in the gigs, for most users !
