my acer aspire 4920 can only enter the setup menu...(by pressing F2 when the acer screen comes up) booting from cds does not work at all...
the logo menu shows up and after that just a black screen with nothing at all...it cant boot up at all and doesnt even reach the windows logo menu...what can i do to salvage the data?

Remove the hard drive, buy a USB enclosure for that laptop hard drive, and connect it to a desktop coputer. You should be able to access the data that way
