Crappy Black Dos-like Screen In Bootcamp

Well ive been trying for ages now to install windows on my mac book pro using boot camp with no success. Before, i was using illigal versions of either xp and vista and couldnt get either to install so i thought id try it the proper way and buy a genuine copy of vista home basic and im making even less progress than when i was using the illegal ones!!

I use boot camp assistant to partition the hard drive and then insert the disk and click the button to restart. I am then stuck in a black dos-like screen with the blinking cursor. Nothing happens no matter how long i leave it :(

Hope someone can help me :) thanks
