Ubuntu; can't do upgrades/installs or updates

Hello; I hope any1 could help me with this error;
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (100)

that's all i get every time i try to install or upgrade. This started when i did an upgrade on my ubuntu box; now i dont even have sound and I can update or install anything without getting this:

HELP PLEASE
