Hi,

I am not sure if this is the right area but here it goes.

Ok I tried to play Guitar hero 3 tonight so I plugged in the guitar but none of my USBs would detect the guitar. I tried using the ones that are working and still there is no detect.

I have no idea what to do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What are your equipment configuration, security software, firewall, and operating system? Did things once work, only to now quit?

I tried using the ones that are working
You mean, known working. I suppose. ie you don't have any faulty ones?

Anyway, try Start --> Run --> devmgmt.msc

Locate any querried USB devices (they have a yellow exclamation mark)
Right click on them, and remove them.

Re-insert the (powered up) USB connection (note you may require drivers for your device)

You know what's weird, in device manager I have no yellow exclamation marks in my USB area.

I have XP pro
Not sure what equipment configuration is sorry
No fire wall up

They all worked before yes.

Sorry for the delay (I'm usually quicker)
in device manager I have no yellow exclamation marks
So if the USB device is powered up and connected, all is Ok in Device Manager?

If so, then it is one of two issues:
1. The device or USB connection is not working
2. Windows has the incorrect drivers loaded.

I'm going to go with 1.
If the device is not recognized in Windows it can be:
Faulty device (confirm by plugging into another computer)
Faulty connection (Check the USB cable and connection, possible replace cable)
Faulty USB port (Try different ports, also remove any other USB devices)
Faulty Driver (Confirm all motherboard drivers are fully installed, especially USB)
Faulty Windows *

* Faulty Windows

First confirm your computer is fully scanned with AntiVirus (http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html) and AntiMalware (http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe)

Next, you have 3 options:
1. System Restore, to a time when it was working (note this may re-install any infestations found by Antivirus or Antimalware)
2. System File Checker (Start-->Run-->sfc /scannow) Windows CD may be required
3. Windows Repair, see here (http://www.windowsxpprofessional.windowsreinstall.com/installxpcdrepair/part3.htm)

I run Both my AVG and Antimalware and there is no errors or any viruses in both programs.

I only have 1 computer so I can't plug in another.
I plug my guitar in the ones that are "known" to work, like the ipod, external HD, video game pad.
My System restore would be useless as I just formatted 3 days ago. And was not working then as well.

When I put in my mother board CD and try to install the proper drivers it says no need to as I have higher then sp 1.

I ran a program driver agent that told me what drivers need to replaced for everything needed, and I just copied and pasted every driver that was needed on google to no avail. They did have links and all but the pages seemed down.

I have like 6 onboard USBs, and I bought a PCI USB card and tried there drivers as well but no luck.

I appreciate the help, but I don't know now, I may just have to get this looked at by a computer guy soon.

My mother board is a Asus p4p800 SE btw

Thanks.

I think the PCI USB Card is causing an issue
If you're able to, test with the card removed

I understand that your USB do not require the drivers (meant for earlier version of Windows) So it's not that.

There's still the data cable possibility

I ran a program driver agent ...
Oh one of those things.
Try this instead:

Please press the green button, and select your drivers
http://support.asus.com/images/auto.gif (http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us)

It seems you must do this twice, once here, then when you get to Asus support, click it again. This button uses JavaScript (which is enabled by default on most browsers)
