No Sound after installing Windows XP

Hello everyone,

I've installed windows xp professional on other computer i have
but there is no sound, there is no hardware conflicts or anything,

1.) i can see the volume icon in the system tray.
if i open the volume control i can see there is no problem at all.

2.) i also checked "Device Manager" for any posible fealure of the
sound driver but everything seem to be ok, no questions marks at all.

3.) i checked the volume in Control Panel, but once again everything
seem to be perfect, it even say: This device is working properly.

4.) And finally, i updated the sound drivers but still nothing. :-(

I checked my headphones, my speakers, everything.

I am aware of the SP2 or the SP3, but i think this have nothing to do with this.

Any suggestion or any help will be very appreciate.

What kind of sound card do you have?

The sound card seems to be Realtek AC'97
cus thats the driver i always use for that PC.

So what, no one is willing to respond?
Just kidding, i wonder if anyone here have ever had this problem.

Hmm, sounds familiar to me. I think it has happened to me, but I don't recall the circumstances. As far as the volume control in the system tray: Go to control panel> sounds,speech and audio devices> change speaker settings. Put a check mark in the "Place volume icon in the taskbar" box. On That same screen, look at the top left under the volume tab. What is written there? Your audio device should be what is there. For example, mine says: SB X-Fi Audio [8C00]

Yours will probably say list something related to realtek or something similar. Also make sure there is no check in the "mute" box

Installed your chipset drivers as well?

Also, look under the Audio tab, and make sure there is something listed in the box under "Sound playback". Default device should have a device listed, again, probably a Realtek related.

you'll see that i was already aware
of every of your suggestions giving.

is wierd cus everything seem to be in place
yeah, drivers, configurations, icon in system tray
and all the other things i mentioned in my first comment.

actually i don't know what else to do :-(

is best to include system specs (you can actually add them to your profile)

for right now tho...

Try Everest Home Edition to get the specs.
Download from here (http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Everest-Home-Edition-Download-16369.html)and run it
- Click Reports->Report Wizard
- Get a Summary report in plain text

Then attach the txt file to your post (use the paper clip icon)

And btw.. have you checked Control Panel->Sounds and Audio->Audio tab? Check the default device settings that are selected

Sorry, I missread your first post. I thought it said "no volume control icon " in the tray.
