Ok, so when I got Tuneup Utilities 2009, I did a PC scan. On health check, it enabled VPN. However, I have no backup before that, and I want to disable it now, as it's cauing my software not to update. Can someone help me please? :(

Have you tried a System Restore? Have you looked in Network Connections?

I've use Tune Up Utilities and frankly, it wouldn't enable VPN useless I told it to! And also frankly, I wouldn't know where to look!

uninstall the program in the control panel - or use ccleaner.

next time use a reputable program like glarysoft - free also

Tedster, what's your beef with TuneUp Utilities. It IS a reputable program and you shouldn't be insinuating that it is not.

Do you mean VPN as in mean a Virtual Private Network or are my googling skills not what they used to be?

Also what OS are you using?

I am now using Glary Utilities. It's quite amazing.

The general lesson is more important than this individual incident.

Before you run any tool that interferes with system settings & parameters, always do a SRP or preferably (also) a registry backup. This is in addition to regular system partition imaging.

What use is it telling it to you now? Well this is the best time and way to learn, and this unfortunate goes for most people. :) If you have learned, it’s well worth the current inconvenience!
