Well, the famous "Melissa" virus was written by a 17 year old, in Singapore. If not Singapore, some other sleazy south east Asian slum.
It does give one pause to wonder whether some software companies who are having their product cracked and stolen, might have cause to add an extra little "surprise", for someone's downloading pleasure.

As to life expectancy, in comparison with the US, we commit suicide by fast food, you surely can't laud Singapore for our foibles.
Anyway, I googled the "Melissa" virus, and as it turns out, David L. Smith from New Jersey wrote it. Well, I fumbled the ball on that one, but don't even try to tell me that New Jersey has happy people and no slums. I know that's wrong.

OK Twister1, I don't mind being quoted. I don't even mind being called wrong by somebody without a clear thought process, or the ability to successfully extract an abstract concept, however imperfectly, from the post of the person you're trying unsuccessfully to quote. But, I do mind having to separate the quote from your reply.
So, I you don't mind please place this >>>> " [/QUOTE]" <<< behind the OP's paragraph, and not after what you've written. Oh, that's without the quotation marks.
Thanks in advance for you attention to this matter.
And BTW, obese people get plenty of health care, they are lavished with it, and that's why we need health care reform, and preventative medicine options, we simply can't afford the amount of health care expenditures that they generate. In words that you could understand, we can't afford to fix them. Then tack on smokers, do ya think they run up the bills also?

The word "virus” is of Latin origin, meaning poison. It is certainly correct when writing in English to use the plural “viruses” and this is indeed now the accepted form. But purists also use the etymologically derived plural “viri”, in analogy to “fungus – fungi”, “terminus – termini” and “dominus – domini”.
Some people even say “virii” trying to be super-purists, but that’s wrong in any case or language.

Health in America
Many of us prejudiced Europeans are under the impression that in America you lose your health in the effort to gain wealth and then lose your wealth trying to regain your heath. Many Americans have the tendency to believe that being God damned fat, makes you God damned important. Plus we're a religious bunch, we're always sitting around waiting for the second coming, of the feedbag that is. Doesn't this seem like an opportunity for a patent and a thriving business; invent potato chip bags with eyelets at the mouth, so that you could just rip the bag open, and strap it to your face!

Being from "South Europe", shouldn't you be "Lynx Lynx", the cat so ferocious they had to name it twice?
Anyway, I sort of subscribe to my own custom of calling all Lynx species "bobcats", since the bobcat gets it's common name because of the "bobbed" tail. All Lynx species have short tails, hence they are all "bobcats", at least to my muddled application of Taxonomic reasoning. IE; "Lynx Canadensis" becomes the "Canadian Bobcat", Lynx Lynx the Asiatic (or European) Bobcat, and Lynx Pardinus (the Iberian Lynx) becomes the Spanish Bobcat, except of course for the actual Bobcat, which becomes Lynx Rufus.
Moving on to "Vir >>"ii"<<, the "ii" ending is used in certain scientific names, and it's pronounced "ee, eye" (long "E", then long "I"! This also manifests itself in the words of certain traditional songs such as, "Old MacDonald's Farm", [sic] , "Old MacDonald had a farm, EE, Eye, EE, Eye, Oh", as it were. (Please note the long "O" sound).
But I digress! Back to the topic in hand, since "fungus" is pronounced with a hard "G", why do many people pronounce "fungi" with a "J". This has bothered me deeply for years.
To whom it may concern, no computer viri were produced, nor was any computer harmed in the making of this post.
Now, as to who I may have pissed off, oops sorry. :haha:

The captain raised several matters of importance, none more than the various cat species…er.. should’t that be specieses in analogy to viruses?
I chose the nick “bobcat” because it contains the familiar word “cat”, which doesn’t portray the wild image of lynx, but lacks no comparable abilities nevertheless.
Moreover, it has a simple, undisputed plural, so that I don’t get challenged over my use of Latin. Now, what would the plural of “lynx” be? Lynx or lynxes? And what would the plural of “lynx lynx” then be? Or is it already a plural since there are 2 of them?
Trying to keep up with the captain’s remarkable knowledge about cats, I looked up the etymology of “lynx”.
Lynx etymology: Middle English, from Latin, from Greek; akin to Old English lox lynx and probably to Greek leukos white. (Merriam-Webster)
Now, I find all this confusing and felt really glad I’m a simple cat. That is until I looked at the etymology of that:
Cat
O.E. (c.700), from W.Gmc. (c.400-450), from P.Gmc. *kattuz, from L.L. cattus. The near-universal European word now, it appeared in Europe as L. catta (Martial, c.75 C.E.), Byzantine Gk. katta (c.350) and was in general use on the continent by c. 700, replacing L. feles. Probably ult. Afro-Asiatic (cf. Nubian kadis, Berber kadiska, both meaning "cat"). Arabic qitt "tomcat" may be from the same source.
Confusing though it still is, all this makes me feel not just European, but international. :)

Felis catus = domestic cat
My "research", (I use that term loosely, since the internet and Wikipedia were both party to it), has obviated this, (potential), fact; modern taxonomy suggests that our "domestic cat", is actually a subspecies of the african wild cat, "Felis Silvestris Catus"!
This may seem like a small bit of news, since it does make perfect sense, that at one time, the domestic cat had to have been wild!
However, for someone who grew up watching cartoons starring "Tweety Pie", (the canary), and >> "Sylvester" << (the cat), it presented a maximum, "holy s***", so that's where they got that name from moment"!
Once again I include a disclaimer: No computers were harmed, no malware of any kind was either produced or injected into the discussion during the production of this post, so help me Jobs!

Yes, this derivation seems quite logical and I suppose “Felis Catus” lost the wild “Silvestis” middle name when he became domesticated.
But though the christening of Sylvester cat is thus explained, it is an unfortunate choice, because Sylvester is not wild enough to put Tweety in its place, which is of course the cat’s stomach. In fact, being a cat supporter, I never watch that silly cartoon for this very reason.

Well, starting a thread and calling those who participate in it “bored” doesn’t say much about the value you attach to it. But, apart from being paradoxical, such a comment is…er…how shall I put it…not exciting.
Now to something more interesting.
At least tell us you don't root for Wile E. Coyote. Coyotes belong to the dog family which has a long standing vendetta with us cats. So I do root them, but the grammatically correct preposition to accompany the verb “root” should not be “for” but “out”.
