Maybe I misunderstand WINRAR. I have tried to compress a large file for sending. But after the compression the file is the same size. I did not split it into smaller files. Is that necessary?
I selected a file/Add/Selected an archive name/Selected RAR/ and chose NORMAL compression.
When the file was compressed it was the same size as the original.
Thanks for any ideas.

If it's a highly compressed audio or video file you'll likely not get any compression out of it because these are already compressed. In fact, you might even end up with a bigger file.

I guess that it was an already highly compressed file, because I have been unable to compress it any further. Like LNCPapa said, sometimes I actually came out with larger files.
I did try 7Z but still no compression.
Thanks for everyones help. I understand these compression programs better now.

The file may not be capable of further compression.
