Office XP help

I am running Office XP in Windows 2k and I have a problem opening MS Word docs that are e-mail attachments.
When I click on the attachment Word opens and in the lower left corner of Word you see a message "requesting virus scan" it takes from 1 to 2 minutes to open.
I have tried disabling my anti virus but it doesn't help.
Does anyone know of a way around this.

If you are using Norton, then open it up and click on the Options button at the top. Now click on the link that says Miscellaneous, under OTHER. There you should see How to keep Microsoft Office documents protected, uncheck Enable Office Plug-in.

That should be all.
