"Agere Systems Inc. will implement the so-called Unbreakable Access algorithm suite, developed at British Telecom, in the Agere Payload-Plus (APP) family of network processors, the company announced this week (June 22) at Supercomm here."
As I have just found out, these algorithms set up an alternate path over which Internet Protocol packets and data services can be delivered when a primary path is unavailable - and it does so far better and faster than physical-layer protection switching does currently.
