Californian Anti-Spyware Bill

The Terminator, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has this week signed an anti-spyware bill (http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=technologyNews&storyID=6359582&src=rss/technologyNews&section=news) which makes it illegal for any unauthorized, deceptive software to install itself on a user's PC for the purposes of secret monitoring. The new Bill prohibits the use of keystroke logging to collect personally identifiable information and the collection of Web browsing histories. The move will clear the way for PC users to sue companies and individuals who have infected them with spyware for damages.

At least, that's the hope. To be honest, there are several critics of the Bill, and they all say that it lacks the strength needed. However, many other OS States are currently working on their own versions of the Bill. Hopefully, this will be the year that Spyware starts to get nailed.

Nice idea but I can`t see how it could be enforced. Lets face it do you think the scumbags would stop? I don`t suppose we can live in hope though. Regards Howardhttp://smilies.sofrayt.com/fsc/bad%20news.gif
