I have a Compaq 7470 system. I formatted it, then tried to get the cdrom device drivers. I keep coming up with this message "The file oakcdrom.sys is either corrupt or missing". Please check line 10 of the config.sys. I formatted several different systems before, but never have had this problem before. Could you please advise me on what to do. Thank you so much

Hello and welcome to Techspot.
Could you go into device manager uninstall the cd-rom reboot and let windows reinstall it?
The reason I say this is because you don`t normally have to install drivers for a cd-rom device the windows drivers are usually ok

Unless you are installing/using DOS on that machine you do not need to put any drivers in the config.sys. As howard said, Windows does not need or want any extra drivers in order to use CD-ROMs.

I don't even have windows loaded on this machine. I'm starting from scratch. I put the win98 boot disk in and I get that error. It says no cd device drivers found.
Thank you

In that case I would suggest you use the 98 floppy boot disk.
If you haven`t got one you can download one from the Microsoft website.

The disk you are booting from is either damaged or poorly put together.
Download a Windows 98 boot floppy from www.bootdisk.com (easier than to go searching for it in www.microsoft.com :p )
