System won't recognize USB 2.0 PCI card

'Lo Again,

I just installed a VIA PCI to USB 2.0 5-port controller card in my system, and no matter what I try, the card isn't being recognized (i.e., when I plug a periphrial into it, it doesn't work, or show up under the device manager). According to the "manual" (really just a 1/2 page tip-sheet) that accompanied the card, I need to download some EHCI drivers that are accompanied with WinXP Service Pack 1 (I'm using the base WinXP Professional from a few years back). I've already tried putting SP1 on via the automatic update, but for some reason they won't "take." When I place the driver CD that came with the card into my current DVD-rom drive, it tries to autoplay, but can't find any pertinent file<s>. So, after all that, here's<re> my question<s>:

1. Is there a way to get the necessary EHCI drivers without downloading WinXP SP1?

2. Is there something "obvious" that I'm doing wrong, here?

TIA...

Try a different PCI slot, I'm probably missing something, but I don't see any reason that card won't work in XP 'out of the box'.
Does that "USB Root Hub" show up in the device manager? Or were you just saying when you plugged things in they didn't show up. If the USB Root Hub doesn't show then you have no chance of getting anything to show up that you plug in it.

My first guess would be that you didn't get the card properly seated. Second Guess would be that there is a conflict somewhere with that pci slot. Third would be those drivers you are talking about. Fourth would be your card is broke.

I had a similar problem & after various checks for new drivers I finally found that there was a section in the mobo BIOS which was switched to USB disabled.

Try enabling in the BIOS.
