Nomad Zen Hardware Problem

I have a Nomad Zen Xtra and read in a popular computer magazine that I could swap hard drives but it would void the warranty. I did this swaping a 30 for a 60g. All went well until I tried to install the firmware. I now get an error message saying "hardware Problem" on the zen and I can't get XP to recognize the device. The original hard drive wont work either. Is my nomad dead or can I fix it and how?
